PICNetInfection prevention and control (IPC), particularly in health care facilities, is a critical element in interrupting transmission of priority infectious diseases in the Pacific region. In 2016, members of the Pacific Public Health Surveillance Network (PPHSN) launched PICNet, the Pacific Infection Control Network to standardise surveillance and response systems for infections that spread in health care facilities.

SPC as the focal point of PPHSN Coordinating Body endeavours to support PICNet activities and assist the Pacific Island countries and territories in addressing infection prevention and control through three strategic thrusts:

  1. provision of updated regional infection prevention and control guidelines;
  2. assisting countries to adapt and align country specific guidelines into the updated regional guidelines; and
  3. building capacity through training on infection prevention and control.
